Many of us often confuse IPS LCD screens with LED displays. In fact, these two products have different differences in technology, viewing angles, and color usage. So let's explore this together:

LED backlighting is used in small and inexpensive LCD panels. His light is usually colored, although white backlighting has become increasingly common. Electro-optical panels are often used in large displays, where uniform backlighting is very important. The electro-optical panel needs to be driven by high-voltage alternating current, and this part is provided by a reverse converter circuit. Cold cathode tubes are used in devices such as computer monitors and are usually white in color. This also requires the reverse use of converters and diffusers. Incandescent backlights are used when high brightness is required, but their drawback is that the lifespan of incandescent bulbs is rather limited and they generate a considerable amount of heat.

The reason why IPS hard screens have clear and ultra-stable dynamic display effects lies in their innovative horizontal conversion molecular arrangement, which changes the vertical molecular arrangement of VA soft screens, thus featuring a more robust and stable liquid crystal structure. It is not in the literal sense that a hard screen is a layer of hard protective film added to the LCD panel to prevent the LCD screen from being punctured by hard objects from the outside.

The differences between IPS screens and LED screens lie in the technology used, viewing Angle, color, dynamic picture quality, and energy conservation and environmental protection. IPS screens use horizontal conversion technology to change the arrangement of liquid crystal molecular particles, while LED screens require backlight support during display. In terms of viewing Angle, color, dynamic picture quality and energy conservation and environmental protection, IPS screens outperform LED screens.

The difference in the use of technology

The full name of IPS screen is In-Plane Switching, which means planar conversion and is commonly known as "Super TFT". The screen changes the arrangement of liquid crystal molecular particles and adopts a horizontal arrangement. When encountering external pressure, the molecular structure is far more solid and stable than that of soft screens.

LED screens require backlight support when displaying, and the light needs to pass through two layers of glass, a substrate, and various optical films, alignment films, and color filters to generate polarized light technology.

  2. The difference in viewing angles

Due to the rotational movement of liquid crystal molecules within a plane, IPS screens can achieve a viewing Angle of nearly 180 degrees in the four axial directions of up, down, left and right, which is better than that of LED screens in terms of viewing Angle.

  3. The difference in color authenticity

The images on IPS screens are more vivid in color and naturally saturated than those on LED screens.

  4. The difference in dynamic picture quality performance

IPS screens ensure picture clarity and have strong expressiveness when shaking, eliminating the blurring and water ripple diffusion phenomena that traditional LCD screens are prone to when subjected to external pressure and shaking.

  5. The difference between energy conservation and environmental protection

The IPS screen arranges the liquid crystal molecules more reasonably, reducing the thickness of the liquid crystal layer, thereby changing the light transmittance of the LCD screen and making the display panel thinner and more power-efficient than the LED screen.
